Friends, I must say you sure know how to make a girl feel good when it comes to her hair. After a rash cut a few years ago, I knew the long hair life was for me. I have had several years to figure out what works for me and what keeps my hair strong while at the same time allowing me to keep it long.
My number 1 tip is to find a hair stylist who gets you and understands your style, and if you live in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, schedule an appointment with Arielle at Bow and Arrow Hair. Arielle is seriously my hair goddess and gives me the hair of my dreams every time I go in for a visit (example here and here). I have never met a stylist who gets my vision when it comes to color as perfectly as Arielle does, and I have never received more compliments on my hair.
One of my main pieces of advice when it comes to your hair would be to train it to not be washed every day. I know that only washing your hair every 4-5 days is not always realistic for everyone, but if you can get out of the habit of washing it every day, your hair will thank you. Also, try to refrain from using heat on it every day and learn a new hairstyle. Braids and top knots will be your best friend, especially on the 4th and 5th day.
HAIR DRYER: I must admit that up until a few months ago, I only ever owned a $20 hair dryer from Target. Now, there's nothing wrong with a cheap hair dryer and it definitely gets the job done, but there's just no comparison when it comes to the Zero7 dryer from Fromm International. This hair dryer is literally life changing and saves me so much time in the mornings. I have very long, thick hair and this powerful dryer makes it so easy to style my hair in the mornings. I'm talking it cut the drying time in half! It is also super quiet and lightweight which is an added bonus.
BRUSHES: Another favorite from FROMM International is there 1907 line of styling brushes. My three favorites are the Hot Paddle brush, Glosser brush and the Square Thermal brush. The Hot Paddle brush is probably my absolute favorite because of its unique aluminum plates that retain help speed up the drying time. We all know I am all for saving a few minutes in the morning.
STRAIGHTENER: The T3 Single Pass Luxe is my go-to hair straightener these days. I don't often wear my hair straight, but when I do, I always reach for the Single Pass Luxe. It really does exactly what it advertises and gives you straight hair in just one single pass. The straightener has an internal micrchip that maintains even heat along the plates without exposing hair to unnecessary heat. I love that it prevents damage and leaves your hair silky and shiny.
CURLING WAND: The 19 mm Clipless Curling Iron from Jose Eber has been my sole curling tool for about five years now. I even dropped it in the toilet one day and thought it was a goner (don't worry, I cleaned it) but somehow it survived. Thank goodness, because I really don't know what I would do without this thing. The clipless curling iron gives you the most gorgeous beachy waves and is so easy to use. I love that you can create soft lived in waves or tighter curls depending on the technique you use. Would anyone be interested in a tutorial?
TONING SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER: I am ALL about the ashy blonde color these days, but unfortunately my hair isn't naturally this light and tends to be more golden blonde than white blonde. Thank goodness for tonight shampoos! If you aren't using a purple shampoo, you need to start! My hair stylist Arielle introduced me to this Pravana toning mask and I can honestly say I love it. It gives my the perfect ashy blonde and moisturizes my hair at the same time. I have also used Shimmer Lights and thought it did a great job as well.
LEAVE IN CONDITIONER: Because I have such long and thick hair, it is often susceptible to lots and lots of tangles. My hair stylist suggested I use this leave-in conditioner to help manage some of the tangles and I love it. I love that it gives me extra moisture without weighing my hair down.
